The best time of year to propose in Cabo

November through April is the best window to propose in Los Cabos. Warm dry days, calm water and reliable sunsets. Within that, November and April give you the same weather as peak season with far better availability. Sunset ranges from about 6:15pm in December to about 8:00pm in June, which shifts your whole evening.
Most couples pick their dates around flights and time off, then ask us to make it work. That is fine, and we do. But if your dates are genuinely flexible, a few things are worth knowing before you book.

Sunset is the thing that actually matters
The best light for a proposal is roughly forty minutes before sunset. In Cabo that means about 5:35pm in December and about 7:20pm in June. Your dinner reservation, your cover story and your transport all have to be built backward from that one time, which is why the month changes more than the weather.
A December proposal happens in the late afternoon and finishes before most people would normally eat. A June proposal runs into the evening. Neither is better, but they are different evenings, and if you are planning around a group or a restaurant it is worth knowing which one you are getting.
What each part of the year is really like
November through April, the peak
This is why people come to Cabo. Days in the mid twenties Celsius, low humidity, barely any rain, calm water. It is also when everyone else comes. Sunset restaurant tables and private charters are the first things to go, and Valentine's week is the single hardest week of the year to book anything good.
If you want this window, aim for November or April. You get the same conditions without competing with the Christmas and February crowd.
May and June, the quiet stretch
Hot and dry, water warming up, noticeably fewer people. Sunsets are at their latest, which suits couples who want a long evening. This is an underrated window and it is usually easier on budget.
July through October, low season
Hot, humid, and the wettest part of the year, though rain in Cabo is usually short rather than all day. Availability is at its best across every supplier. The catch is the storm risk below.
Hurricane season
Hurricane season in Baja California Sur runs roughly June through November, and September is historically the most active month. Most days pass without incident, but conditions can close the marina at short notice, which stops every boat charter. If your dates cannot move, plan outside this window.
We build a named backup into every outdoor booking regardless of the month, and we watch forecasts from about seventy two hours out. On the water it is not our call at all: if the port captain closes the marina, nothing sails, and we move to the backup that same evening.
Whale season, if you are on a boat
Humpbacks pass Los Cabos roughly December through April. On a three hour charter in those months there is a genuine chance of seeing them, sometimes very close. Nobody can promise it and you should be suspicious of anyone who does. But if you are choosing between February and May and you like the idea, February wins.
How far ahead to book
- Eight weeks or more. Everything is open, including Christmas and Valentine's. First choice of boats, sunset tables and photographers.
- Four to eight weeks. The normal window. Almost every setup is achievable, though specific premium slots may already be gone on peak dates.
- Under two weeks. Still possible and we do it regularly, but location choice narrows and some elements may not be deliverable.
If your dates are fixed, send them anyway. We will tell you honestly what that week in Cabo looks like and what is still available, rather than selling you something the conditions will not support.
